Dr. Anil Karlekar Head of Anaesthesia and Critical Care Medicine has been responsible for maintaining the highest standard of clinical work in Department of Anesthesia. He was associated with first open heart surgery in Jaipur and has been involved with the computerization of hospital information system.
Since joining Fortis Escorts Heart Institute in 1988, Dr. Karlekar has administered over 15,000 cases. IT applications in medicine and Quality Control have been his special interests. Dr Karlekar has designed the entire anesthetic, surgical, and critical care forms that are in use at Fortis Escorts Heart Insitute including masterminding the processes of their digitization. In addition he has authored all the work instructions, protocols and clinical pathways that are in practice at Fortis Escort Heart Instittute.
Education:
Born in 1951, Dr. Karlekar completed his MBBS and MD from AIIMS, New Delhi. Dr Karlekar has done training at St Vincent Hospital, Sydney for Anesthetic management of Heart and Lung Transplant surgery. Dr Karlekar has chaired scientific sessions and delivered lectures at various regional and national meets. He is a member of Indian Society of Anesthesiologists (ISA), Life member of Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists (SCA) USA and Life member of Indian Association of Cardiovascular And Thoracic Anesthesiologists (IACTA)
Interest:
Dr Karlekar was associated with Saudi Heart Center at the King Fahd Hospital in Jeddah in early ‘80s. It was a tertiary cardiac care center drawing patients from not only Saudi Arabia but from neighboring countries. He was actively involved in animal research activities including experiments on calves and baboons.
